HISTORY
The islands were
purchased in 1917 for 25 million dollars from Denmark. They were to be used
by the navy to protect the investment in the Panama Canal. In
1931 the islands were turned over to the local government
consisting of one governor and 15 senate seats. Today the United
States Virgin islands are considered a Territory of the USA.
Passports are a good idea and will be necessary soon, if not
already ; please check. There are no sales taxes imposed by the USVI government so shopping does have its advantages.

WEATHER
The Temperature is usually between
70 and 82 degrees all year round with light winds, sunshine and
some rain daily. Be prepared to wear lots of
sunscreen; St. Thomas is located at latitude 18.

FOR YOUR STAY
A car might be
necessary unless you enjoy a pleasant 25 minute walk to the town
of Red Hook where you are able to catch a $2 safari ride to the downtown
shopping area.
The Ritz Carlton and
the 2 Vessup beaches are within a 5 minute walk from your Cabrita Condos.
At these locations you can
enjoy great sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling.
